Clément Massier, Cache-pot
1900 ca., maiolica with lustres
Deepening
Clément Massi became acquainted with the art of ceramics in his father’s pottery workshop in Vallauris before setting up his own business in Golfe-Juan. His metallic lustre productions were very successful, obtained following numerous experiments that gave excellent quality results where the iridescence involved both the structure and the decoration in a balanced synthesis. The lustre technique was resumed towards the end of the nineteenth century, thanks to the recovery of ancient practices from the past, updated in a modern form.
